Rowing Programs
Since 1997, Great Bay Rowing has been offering high school students and adults a chance to learn and enjoy the sport of rowing on the Oyster River in Durham. Under the direction of an experienced and talented coaching staff, the club currently offers beginner and novice programs to teach beginners how to row, an intermediate program for those readying themselves for more advanced recreational rowing or competition, and a competitive program for both junior and adult rowers. We offer both sweep and sculling, with programs in the early morning and late afternoon.
GBR prides themselves at maintaining a relaxed and encouraging environment where people of all abilities can enjoy the great sport of rowing.
Junior Rowing Programs
The junior novice and varsity programs are offered for students grade 9 thru 12. They meet Monday thru Friday in the afternoon for water and land practices.
The discipline, teamwork and character developed from this sport make rowers attractive to colleges. Several well-trained GBR juniors rowers have gone on to take prominent positions on their college rowing teams. Fun events, both rowing and non-rowing related, have become traditional aspects of the Great Bay Rowing team experience.
Junior Novice/Varsity Program
Student rowers from area high schools train to compete in local and regional competitions. Our experienced and talented coaching staff will instruct novice rowers on the fundamentals of rowing technique, equipment, proper conditioning and teamwork. Varsity level rowers will continue to develop both mentally and physically, improving on their technique and fitness level.
